Objectives

At the end of the program the student; Will learn principles of scientific work.  Will have the basic theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in own field.Will possess competences of instructors at schools.Will be able to gain competences necessary to continue their master's study.Needs of the private sector gains to equipment and  ability.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are accepted with "Students Selection and Placement System" organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Center. The system consists of two-stage exams. While "Higher education Entrance Examination" constitutes first stage of this system, "Undergraduate Placement Exam" which consists of 5 different fields occur at the second stage. Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores of this examination systems and their high school grade point averages.


Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our University have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting First Cycle Degree;
1. to complete 140+-10 credit hours,
2. to take all required courses and be successful in these courses,
3. grade of weighted average point should be 2.00 at least.

Profile of The Programme

Biology department has been established within the Faculty of Sciences and Letters which is one of the main faculty of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University that was established in 2006 by the Law No. 5467. The Department has started education and training activities in 2008 and gave its first graduates in 2012. Following graduation programme, the master studies  was started in 2009. These programmes are still continue to accepting students. 

The department consists of five different divisions: General Biology, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology, Botanic and Zoology. 2 associate professors, 8 assistant professor, 1 Dr. research assistant, 3 research assistant are working within the department. 

There are many national and international scientific articles published in journals, oral presentations and posters presented at congress and scientific books published by the department members. The department’s research and students laboratories are qualified for both advanced researches and students practices. Faculty members in our four different divisions carry out their advanced researches at theirs specific areas.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The occupational profiles of the graduates contain; professional readiness and level of professional adaptibility to conditions and requirements from the practice or basic professional education as the precondition for the follow-up teaching or departmental study of biology.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the first cycle degree programme, it is possible to continue further studies in the second cycle degree programme that can last up to 2 years.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

The students are subjected to various evaluation methods such as exam(s), homework, project(s), practice(s) and final exam. The evaluation methods include: written exam(s), true-false test(s), short-answered test(s), multiple-choice test(s), oral exam(s), homework, project(s), designs(s), portfolio, and performance duties (application/laboratory/workshop/field work/seminar/presentation/term paper/dissertation). This part is explained in detail on the individual course information page for each course.

All exams and other activities are graded based on 100 points. The midterm and final exams represent 40% and 60% of the final grade, respectively. However, a student who gets a grade below 30 out of 100 is graded as FF. A student obtaining one of the grades of (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (G), and (B) is considered successful in that course. To enter exams, students must meet following requirements that are specifically outlined in “Mustafa Kemal University Regulation for Vocational and Undergraduate Education and Examination”:

a) Enrolment for the course in question, 
b) At least 70% attendance of the course, 
c) At least 80% attendance of the practices in the course, 
d) Successfully completing practical projects. 
Other matters related to learning and exams are given in “Mustafa Kemal University Regulation for Vocational and Undergraduate Education and Examination”.

Grade conversion is carried out from the 100 grade scale into the Letter grade scale and 4 point grade scale using the table given below for Bachelor’s Degree Programs at Mustafa Kemal University.

*A student with a (DC) or (DD) grade is considered successful if they had a yearly Grade Point Average (GPA) of minimum 2.25 in the given year.

K: Unsuccessful in non-credited courses, internship, industry based training, professional orientation program, and the practice,
M: Exempt,
B: Successful.


Graduation Requirements

At the end of the VIIIth Term, 155 ± 10 credits must be completed,the minimum GPA has to be 2.00 (70/100) and the students have to be succesful according to the education regulations of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.
