Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded with a First Cycle Degree in Early Childhood Education Program successful completion of all the requirements in the curriculum programme and fulfilling all other requirements for graduation.

Objectives

The aim of the programme is to promote early-childhood education with an emphasis on its nation wide and international significance by training qualified, innovative and creative teachers capable of spreading and increasing its quality. 

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to higher education is based on a nation-wide Student Selection Examination (ÖSS). The examination is held once in a year and is administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the selection examination and their high school grade point averages.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our Early Childhood Education Program have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting First Cycle Degree are to complete (240) ECTS credit hours as diveded below and to fulfill all other requirements.
a.(232) Credit hours covering (63) compulsory courses as detailed in the curriculum.
b.(8) Credit hours covering (2) optional courses as detailed in the curriculum.
c.Maximum study period to receive Second Cycle Degree is 7 years.

Profile of The Programme

Early childhood education program started to provide education, with its 206 students, within the body of Süleyman Demirel University, Education Faculty in 1997 to educate qualified early childhood education teachers. The program,  once providing education under the name of early chilhood education teaching program, then continued to provide education as early childhood education program in Primary Education Department within the context of reconstruction of Education Faculty. It continued to provide education as Early Childhood Education in the department of Primary Education with the foundation of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in 2006.

There two assisiocate professors, asisstant professor, one instructor and two research assistant in our program. There are totally eight classess, namely four normal education and four evening education classes, in our department.

Student-teachers of af early chilhood education are trained in Early chilhood education Department of Burdur Education Faculty of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University about subjects of early chilhood education. Education-instruction process lasts for four years.That education programme includes field courses, courses of teaching formation, History of Atatürk’s Principles and Revolution, Foreign language, Turkish and general culture. Each cıurse consists of researh, investigation and seminar studies.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
 1-  Acquire necessary content knowledge of development of ealy childhood.
 2-  Use variety of teaching methods and techniques regarding learning and teaching process.
 3-  Follow the international literature, and communicate.
 4-  Plan vocational projects and activities for children and families from social surroundings with the awareness of social responsibility and carry them out.
 5-  Acquire the skills to monitor children's learning, and evaluate and record children's development and learning in educational settings
 6-  Acquire the skills of establishing healthy communication with students and colleagues and use Turkish fluently and correctly according to its rules.
 7-  Possess content knowledge of teaching programmes, teaching strategies, methods and techniques together with knowledge of measurement and evaluation.
 8-  Have interdisciplinary initiative and team work spirit and creativity skills.
 9-  Prepare materials and other academic resources.
 10-  Prepare necessary registration, documents and reports in preschool education process.
 11-  Recognize the preschool institutions and their properties, have the appropriate properties of preschool teachers regarding Atatürk’s principles and revolutions.
 12-  Have cultural education compatible with social environment and education level.
 13-  Carry out activities for the participation of the family to provide school-family-child interaction.
 14-  Have sufficient level of general culture in order to promote children's development; have adequate level of research knowledge and foreign language in order to follow the developments in his/her field.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students that graduate from this department work in kindergardens of primary schools, practice kindergartens bound to high school of girl’s occupation, special and official day-care centers, kindergartens and various social assistance institutes.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the first cycle degree programme, it is possible to continue further studies in the second cycle degree programme that can last up to two years. The graduates are awarded as Expert in their field.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

All exams and other activities are graded based on 100 points. The midterm and final exams represent 40% and 60% of the final grade, respectively. However, a student who gets a grade below 30 out of 100 is graded as FF. A student obtaining one of the grades of (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (G), and (B) is considered successful in that course. To enter exams, students must meet following requirements that are specifically outlined in “Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Regulation for Vocational and Undergraduate Education and Examination”:


a) Enrolment for the course in question, 

b) At least 70% attendance of the course, 

c) At least 80% attendance of the practices in the course, 

d) Successfully completing practical projects. 

Other matters related to learning and exams are given in “Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Regulation for Vocational and Undergraduate Education and Examination”.


Grade conversion is carried out from the 100 grade scale into the Letter grade scale and 4 point grade scale using the table given below for Bachelor’s Degree Programs at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.

*A student with a (DC) or (DD) grade is considered successful if the/she a yearly Grade Point Average (GPA) of minimum 2.25 in the given year.

K: Unsuccessful in non-credited courses, internship, industry based training, professional orientation program, and the practice,

M: Exempt,

B: Successful.


Graduation Requirements

Early Childhood Teacher Education major is subject to the following graduation requirements:
1. To be succesful in the the elective and compulsory courses defined in the curriculum which is 240 ECTS.
2. To graduate from the program, GPA must be at least 2.00 (CC).
