Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded with a First Cycle Degree in Music Education Programme upon successful completion of all the requirements in the curriculum programme and fulfilling all other requirements for graduation.

Objectives

To bring up high qualified music teachers that National Education System needs.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to higher education is based on a nation-wide The Transition To Higher Education Examination (YGS). The examination is held once in a year and is administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the selection examination and their high school grade point averages. Students must have 180 points from YGS in order to be able to participate in our special entrance exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our university have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting First Cycle Degree;

1. to complete 240 Ects / 163 National credit hours,

2. to take all required courses and be successful in these courses,

3. to score a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 2.00 / 4.00

Profile of The Programme

Music Education Department that started active education in 1993 has reached a brilliant status in the way of both the qualities and numbers of its graduated students although it is the 9th music education department in Turkey. Music Education Department takes part in and leads to various activities which can response of the cultural and artistic needs of the community and university students. These include various national and international activities. Among the successful activities which can be seen as an important part of the academic development level, the first, second and third prizes which were won in National Folk Music Chorus; the second prize (Silver Madal) which was won in International Chorus Competition in Czech Republic and the prizes of Turkey Polyphonic Chorus Festival. Every year, at the end of the spring term, Traditional Final Concert are arranged and every week, Wednesday Concerts are also held throughout the education year. With the help of these activities, it is aimed to create an atmosphere in which students can show their artistic development and increase their cultural background at the highest level. Through these activities, it is also aimed to incease cultural and musical background of Burdur and its surrounding. It is also supposed to help the universities' mission of leading the community. Burdur Faculty of Education Music Department is quite proud of that it has succeeded these missions with awareness of responsibility. The aim of our Institution is to bring up well-educated and qualified music teachers for primary and secondary schools. Among the graduated students, there are lecturers and research assistants who work at Faculty of Fine Arts and Music Education Departments.

Academic Staff contains 2 Professors, 4 Assist. Professors, 7 Assoc. Professors, 2 Lecturers,

PHYSICAL CAPACITY AND EQUIPMENT

1 Concert Hall, 1 Chamber Orchestra Hall, 12 Rooms for Individual Piano Practice , 8 Rooms for Individual Instrument Practice , 3 classroom with pianos. Department has also 1 grand piano, 3 digital pianos, 12 upright pianos, 3 Keyboards, 3 Cellos, 2 Violas and large numbers of other instruments.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
 1-  Student becomes a music teacher as Turkish National Education System needs.
 2-  Student contributes to develope current musical values of his/her homeplace.
 3-  Student contributes the local, the national and the global values of music education to be cherished and transfer for new generations through scientific and artistic activities.
 4-  Student plays the piano and one other instrument that music literature requires.
 5-  Student becomes qualified in voice education.
 6-  Student gains a wide information about orchestra and chorus literature and technics in conducting an orchestra and chorus.
 7-  Student uses at least one music scoring software.
 8-  Student acquires cultural and pedagogical information that music education requires.
 9-  Student gains knowledge about local, national and global styles of music.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates can work both in elementary schools and in high schools in Turkey.

Graduates can apply Second Cycle Degree programs that accept graduates of Music Education Departments.

Graduates can serve in various orchestras.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the first cycle degree programme, it is possible to continue further studies in the second cycle degree programme that can last up to 2 years. The graduates are awarded as Master title (MME, MA, MS,…..). Since the year of 2, the first cycle degree holders, whose GPA is above 70 at first cycle degree level, can enlist directly to the third cycle degree programmes.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

The Requirements About Examinations are:

To make lesson registration

The exams may be applied as oral, theoritical or practical.

In a single day, at most 2 exams can be carried out for each class. In required siteuations, Head of the Department can decide the application of an exam by a different lecturer. Except for national and religious days, there may be examinations also at the weekends.

The programs which indicates the examination dates and places are prepared by department, they are approved by the management and they are announced at least 2 weeks before. The students have to enter the exams in the announced time and places and they have to bring their ID Cards and needed documents with them. The examination of the student who does not enter the exam in the announced time and place is not valid.

Midterms: Every term is suppossed to have al least one midterm exam. The results of the midterm examinations are supposed to be announced 7 days before the final exams.

If a student does not enter a midterm examination, he/she gets "0". 

In order to enter final examinations it is supposed to attend at least %70 of the theoritical lessons. 

Graduation Requirements

Music majors are subject to the following sets of graduation requirements:
1. Requirements imposed upon all undergraduate students in the University
2. Requirements established by the Department of Music Teacher Education.
All of these will be satisfied by completing the requirements in a period of no more than 16 semesters, including semesters at other universities.
