Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded with a Short Cycle Degree in İnterior Design upon successful completion of all the requirements in the curriculum programme and fulfilling all other requirements for graduation.

Level of Qualification

Short Cycle Degree


At the end of the programme, the student will;
1.have the knowledge and capabilities of a field that is supplemented with practicing tools and materials together with general and vocational courses based on the education given in the secondary schools,
2.identify, collect and exploit the data required for the solution of the well-posed problems in the field of furniture and decoration, demonstrate exploiting the theoretical knowledge and handcraft and/or intellectual abilities in practice,
3.present the design and applications relating to furniture systems to his/her colleagues, supervisors and the people and/or groups whom he/she serves clearly and become a part of teamwork,
4.demonstrate learning and applying the knowledge that has been learnt in the field of furniture and decoration independently,
5.demonstrate the ability of determining the problems that cannot be predicted before and seeking for the solutions of those problems,
6.assess and supervise the performances of the individuals under his/her supervision objectively,
7.have a sufficient command of a foreign language,
8.capable of using softwares and hardwares regarding his/her vocation as well as basic computer knowledge, aware of ethic values, social responsibility and social security rights relating to his/her field, aware of occupational security, worker health and environmental protection relating to his/her field,
11.have knowledge and consciousness about The Principles of Atatürk and The History of The Turkish Revolution.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to higher education is based on a nation-wide Student Selection Examination (OSS). The examination is held once a year and is administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the selection examination and their high school grade point averages. Students who are graduated from Technical High School can be registered without an exam by the law 4702.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our University have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting Short Cycle Degree are to complete (120) credit hours as listed below and to fulfill all other requirements.
a. (104) Credit hours covering (36) compulsory courses as detailed in the curriculum.
b. (16) Credit hours covering (8) optional courses as detailed in the curriculum.
c. Maximum study period to receive Short Cycle Degree is 4 years.

Profile of The Programme

The goal of the programme is to train technical staff who recognize wood processing machinery and materials and accessories that can be used in manufacturing of furniture and also who can design and manufacture furniture as well as indoor design.
It is aimed to have graduates who(´re);
*have knowledge and consciousness about The Principles of Atatürk and The History of The Turkish Revolution,
*have a good command of Turkish language,
*capable of using vocational mathematics,
*have an intermediate level of English,
*capable of drawing and assessing projects of furniture and decoration,
*capable of using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software’s and familiar with Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) techniques,
*capable of manufacturing and assembling in accordance with the given drawings,
*recognize the materials and accessories used in furniture industry,
*recognize and operate the wood processing machinery and repair some simple malfunctions and do the regular adjustments,
*recognize hand tools and sharpen the cutting tools of the machines,
*recognize some surface finishing materials such as paints and polishers,
*recognize and use the pneumatic and hydraulics circuit equipments,
*pay particular attention to health and safety precautions about his/her vocation,
*have the requirements to follow the recent developments and innovations in the area of furniture and decoration.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The occupational profiles of the graduates are as follows:
Processing of wood, which has a major role in daily life, has a major economical importance. Designing and producing due to quality standards and ergonomics of wood furniture requires expertise. The graduates take courses in Computer Aided Design, Furniture Upholstery, Production Technologies and specialize in their field, becoming required staff.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the short cycle degree programme, it is possible for the students to continue further studies in the first cycle degree programme on condition that they succeed in Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

In the evaluation of course grading, depending on the type of the course, oral exams, homeworks, projects or laboratory works are taken into consideration. As for the assesment of the examinations; one midterm exam and/or other studies which take the place of mid-term exam has the contribution of 40% and the contribution of the final exam to the course grade is 60%. The research projects in the students'own fields are conducted by the teaching staff for the students' own development. A make-up exam is given to students with certified excuses accepted by the relevant executive board within one day after the final examinations are over.

Graduation Requirements

The requirements to graduate from İnterior and Design Programme are based on the following conditions:
*to be succesfull from all the courses required for graduation within the time period defined in the related regulation and to finish the study programme with the GPA of at least 2.00
*to do an internship of 30 weekdays

Graduates who successfully complete this program;
 1. have high level information and skills supported by the course books that include the most recent information, application equipment and other scientific sources related to education technologies, teaching profession, general information and basic sciences; use these informations and skills in daily life and in jobs,
