Primary Education Master Thesis Programme
Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded with a Second Cycle Degree in Elementary Teacher Education Program upon successful completion of all the requirements in the curriculum programme and fulfilling all other requirements for graduation.

Objectives

The purpose of program is to increase productivity and quality of the academic field as well as open to new scientific research to ensure the sustainability of scientific solutions that work well in teams on problems of education aims to educate teachers and academics.

Upon successful completion of the program, the student;

Possesses and develops the theoretical and practical knowledge at expert level obtained from the field of education. Exercises, develops and deepens the theoretical and practical knowledge at expert level obtained from the field of education. Builds a problem independently in the field of expertise, develops ways of solution, comes up with a solution, evaluates the results and puts the mentioned progress into practice should the case occur. Analyzes the social relations in occupational and professional environments and the norms shaping these relations from a critical perspective, takes action and leads the process whe these mentioned factors are supposed to improve or change. Collects, interprets and pronounces the field related data on the basis of scientiifc and ethical values together with teaching these values.  

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to master programme is based on the following requirements;
1. Students must have a bachelor’s degree diploma or a diploma obtained from faculty or college at abroad and accepted by HEC (Higher Education Council).
2. Students must get at least 55 points (which is appropriate for the programme) from ALES or equivalent of this score from GRE or GMAT.
3. Students must enter to either one of the exams names ÜDS, KPDS or YDS or equivalent of this exams IELTS or TOEFL.
4. For the placement of canditates to the applied programme, students must obtain at least 60 points which is calculated by summing 50 % of ALES, 20 % of General Point Average score, 10 % of foreign language exam (ÜDS, KPDS, YDS, IELTS or TOEFL) and 20 % of verbal or written exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our Elementary Teacher Education Master Program have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year. Students who are in dissertation stage can not transfer.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting Second Cycle Degree are to complete 120 ECTS credit hours as diveded below and to fulfill all other requirements for graduation.
a)30 Credit hours covering 4 compulsory courses as detailed in the curriculum.
b)30 Credit hours covering 4 optional courses as detailed in the curriculum.
c)Maximum study period to receive Second Cycle Degree is 4 years.

Profile of The Programme

Department of Primary School (Elementary School), conducted by master’s graduate education program, based on contemporary approaches; aware of contemporary approaches to measurement and evaluation, can improve education activities in line with technological developments, the process of using different teaching methods and instructional strategies, which can follow the work carried out in the field of scientific research which aims to train qualified individuals.

In program, there are 9 faculty members; 4 of them are Associate Professors and 5 of them are Assistant Professors. The related instructional facilities for the program are conducted in physical regions belonging to the Department of Primary School.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
 1-  Have scientific and analytical thinking skills.
 2-  Know research methods and and techniques.
 3-  Design a research project, collect data, analyse and interpret data.
 4-  Student teachers acquire sufficient technical and pedagogical skills in using Information and Communications Technology for educational purposes.
 5-  Student teachers acquire sufficient pedagogical content knowledge in primary education; know and apply contemporary teaching, measurement and assessment methods and techniques.
 6-  Conduct studies in primary education in the framework of life long learning.
 7-  Have adquate knowledge in contemporary learning and teaching theories and approaches.
 8-  Acquire skills and knowledge in accessing research resources and rewieving research literature in primary education.
 9-  Acquire skills in finding solutions to problems faced in primary education.
 10-  Effectively participate in team work tasks.
 11-  Evaluate contemporary developments in paralel with national values and realities.
 12-  İmplement field knowledge to interdiciplinary studies.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

      Occupational profiles of graduates includes the following features;

student teachers acquire foreign language skills at the level of following resources written in foreign languages,
 have scientific and analytical thinking skills,
know research methods and and techniques,
design a research project, collect data, analyse and interpret data,
student teachers acquire sufficient technical and pedagogical skills in using Information and Communications Technology for educational purposes,
student teachers acquire sufficient pedagogical content knowledge in primary education; know and apply contemporary teaching, measurement and assessment methods and techniques,
 conduct studies in primary education in the framework of life long learning,
 have adquate knowledge in contemporary learning and teaching theories and approaches,
acquire skills and knowledge in accessing research resources and rewieving research literature in primary education,
 acquire skills in finding solutions to problems faced in primary education,  effectively participate in team work tasks,  evaluate contemporary developments in paralel with national values and realities,
implement field knowledge to interdiciplinary studies.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the Second Cycle Degree programme, it is possible to continue PhD studies. The graduates are awarded as PhD graduate in their field.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

Each student must attend the courses, applied studies, laboratories, projects, seminars and other studies of the semester s/he is enrolled for. Students who have not attended at least 30% of theoretical courses and 20% of applied and laboratory studies are not allowed to take the final exam of those courses. Once the student fulfilles the attendance requirements in theoretical courses, no attendance is required if the course is repeated later.
The Mid-term and Final Examinations are generally in written form. However, the instructor of the course may decide to conduct the exam in the form of an oral exam, project or assignment on condition that s/he states it on the course information form (syllabus). Examinations are arranged and conducted by the instructors teaching the courses. Make-up exam is given to students with certified excuses accepted by the relevant executive board within three days after the final examinations are over.
A course final grade calculation, with 40% of midterm exams 60% calculate the final exam is determined. To be successful from a course, the final exam score must be at least 70 and the total score at the end of the term must be at least 70 (CC ) which is passing grade.

Graduation Requirements

Elementary Teacher Education major is subject to the following graduation requirements;
1.To be succesful in the the elective and compulsory courses defined in the curriculum which is 120 ECTS.
2.To graduate from the program, GPA must be at least 2.0 (CC).
3.Studet must complete succesfuly the specialty courses, seminars, and thesis.
