Veterinary Animal Science Master Degree Programme
Qualification Awarded

·         Students who successfully complete the thesis, courses and seminar will be awarded "Master of Degree in Veterinary-Animal Science".

Objectives

The aim of the Animal Science Second Cycle Degree Programme is not only to prepare qualified and wise graduates according to the needs of our country but also to increase the number of teaching staff and specialists that are the needs of the universities. With this aim, its main orientation is; to train scientists who have scientific thinking ability, knowledge and research skills

Specific Admission Requirements

Students with a first cycle degree from Veterinary Faculty and Agriculture Faculty Department of Animal Science are accepted to Animal Science Second Cycle Degree Program.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Animal Science Second Cycle Degree programme students who are registered with vertical transfer have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first week of their registration semester. 

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students should:

successfully complete their lessons,  have totally minimum of 21 national credits (60 ECTS credits, including graduate seminar), take special studies course (with supervisorship) on the thesis subject 8 ECTS credits for each semester, prepare and defende thesis.
Profile of The Programme

The Department of Animal Science, which was connected to the University of Akdeniz from 1992, has been active under the Faculty of Veterinary, since the establishment of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in 2006. Currently 2 professors, 3 assistant professors and 1 research assistant work in the department. 
The department of animal science deals with the morphological and physiological characteristics, yield function, genotypic development ways of the yields of farm animals, rational care and breeding principles of farm animals. 
Animal Science, which can be described as animal breeding and improvement, has biometrics and genetic sciences within.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
 1-  The students who succesfully complete this programme will be able to; Define the basic concepts related to animal science.
 2-  Conceive the breeds, housing and management principles of various kinds of farm animals.
 3-  Understand the animal breeding methods related to improving animal productivity.
 4-  Apply the statistical analysis related to animal science by learning basic concepts of statistics.
 5-  Get knowledge about genetic and biotechnology on animal breeding.
 6-  Show the ability to use new information systems, relevant methods, current scientific knowledge and contemporary technology required for animal husbandry practices.
 7-  Will be able to interpret the results examining events and phenomena, presenting written and oral formats related to Animal Science.
 8-  Possess vast knowledge of a field of study in Zootechnics at expert level pursuant to the proficiency of bachelor level.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

At the end of Animal Science Second Cycle Degree Programme, the students become specialist in Department of Animal Science and they can work in the official, university or in private sector.

Access to Further Studies

It is possible for the Animal Science Second Cycle Programme students to continue their third cycle education after second cycle degree.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

Examinations are composed of one mid-term and one final exam. In order a student to take the final exam, s/he should attend at least 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of applied and laboratory studies. The examinations can be in written form, oral form, written-application form, oral-application form or project form. The course grade is calculated by adding 40% of mid-term grade to the 60% of the final exam. To be accepted as successful from the course, the second cycle degree students should get at least 70(CC) out of 100. The final exam results should be 70 (CC) in order to pass the course.

Graduation Requirements

the students graduate graduate from Animal Science Second Cycle Degree Programme are to complete 120 ECTS credit hours including at least seven courses the credit of which is above 21 National Credits, a seminar and thesis study.

An important note: Students who is in coursework (first and second semesters); in addition to compulsory courses, by choosing from the existing pool of elective courses, in order to complete the 30 ECTS per semester, will complete the remaining credits.
