Science Teaching Program
Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded with a First Cycle Degree in ScienceTeaching Program upon successful completion of all the requirements in the curriculum programme and fulfilling all other requirements for graduation.

Objectives

The aim of this programme is to train professional science teachers that acquired technical sufficiency in the theory and the applications, had a major role in one´s education that as responded the necessities of posterity for being leader country in science and technology and our country taking place in between the developed countries. Upon successful completion of the programme, the student;

Comprehends the field related concepts and relations between concepts pursuant to the competence achieved in secondary education. Conceptualizes the field related events and phenomena, analyzes these with scientific methods and techniques, interprets and evaluates the data. Takes responsibility in individual or group studies and carries out the assigned task effectively. Specifies the learning requirements and orientates learning. Becomes conscious of the national and universal consideration points denoted in National Education Basic Law.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to higher education is based on a nation-wide Student Selection Examination (ÖSS). The examination is held once in a year and is administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the selection examination and their high school grade point averages.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our University have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting First Cycle Degree are to complete (240) ECTS credit hours as diveded below and to fulfill all other requirements.
a.(232) Credit hours covering (57) compulsory courses as detailed in the curriculum.
b.(8) Credit hours covering (4) optional courses as detailed in the curriculum.
c.Maximum study period to receive Second Cycle Degree is 7 years.

Profile of The Programme

The Division of Science Education came into operation under the Burdur Education Faculty of Suleyman Demirel University in the academic year of 1998-1999 with an associate professor, an assistant professor, and a research assistant. In 2006, with the establishment of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, it separated from Suleyman Demirel University, and continued its education activities in the same faculty.

In the field of science education, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University provides courses on the subjects of science education in the Faculty of Education. The Division of Science Education is a four-year program that provides education for university students. This program contains six different course packages. These are: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Teaching Formation, Undergraduate Minor courses (Mathematics), and Liberal Education courses. All these courses have their own research, analysis, field study studies. This program’s education language is Turkish. Graduates of this program have the opportunity to give Science Education and Agriculture lessons in primary education schools. They also have the opportunity to join into a master’s education program. Currently, two professors, one associate professor, six assistant professors, and one research assistant work in the division. Our division has both morning and evening classes.

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
 1-  Have the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills to perform teaching profession effectively and productively.
 2-  Follow the scientific, technologic and social developments, and use them for educational purposes.
 3-  Know the science and technology course’s curriculum goals.
 4-  Use the theoretical and practical information taken in science education.
 5-  Associate science, technology, society and environment.
 6-  Arrange suitable learning environments according to gains and goals of science and technology curriculum.
 7-  Apply different methods and techniques according to gains and goals of science and technology curriculum.
 8-  Apply to different class management models with researching according to class.
 9-  Prepare the materials and modals suitable for curriculum goals.
 10-  Have scientific and technological knowledge.
 11-  Can plan the teaching and learning process.
 12-  Understand the nature of science.
 13-  Carry out the works in the field within framework of lifelong learning.
 14-  Teach the stages such as collecting the data about the field, interpreting, announcing based on social, scientific and ethic values.
 15-  Use every kind of activities and produced information by evaluating to provide job development in the Works that will be done.
 16-  Follow updated information related to department (scientific, information, statute) and uses if required.
 17-  Carry out Works related to his department with collaborative.
 18-  Associate with department and education courses what he learned.
 19-  Can develop susceptibility oriented to education problems and needs in department.
 20-  Use scientific process skills, informatics and communication skills.
 21-  Have laboratory usage skills.
 22-  Have pedagogical content knowledge.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The occupational profiles of the graduates contain: Professional readiness and level of professional adaptibility to conditions and requirements from the practice or basic professional education as the precondition for the follow-up teaching or departmental study of science education

Access to Further Studies

After completion of the second cycle degree, students may continue master programme with or without thesis study.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

Each student must attend the courses, applied studies, laboratories, projects, seminars, workshops, graduation projects and other studies of the semester s/he is enrolled for. Students who have not attended at least 70 % of theoretical courses and 80 % of applied and laboratory studies are not allowed to take the final exam of those courses. Once the student fulfilles the attendance requirements in theoretical courses, no attendance is required if the course is repeated later. Examinations are generally in written form. However, the instructor of the course may decide to conduct the exam in the form of an oral exam, project or assignment on condition that s/he states it on the course information form (syllabus). Examinations are arranged and conducted by the instructors teaching the courses. A make-up exam is given to students with certified excuses accepted by the relevant executive board within make-up exams week after the final examinations are over.

Graduation Requirements

Students at Faculty of Education are subject to the following sets of graduation requirements: 1.Requirements imposed upon all undergraduate students in the university.
2.Requirements for all students in the Faculty of Education, all of these will be satisfied by completing the requirements in a period of no more than 14 semesters, including semesters at other universities.
