Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded with a Second Cycle Degree
in Early Childhood Education Program successful completion of all the requirements in the curriculum programme and fulfilling all other requirements for graduation.

Objectives

The aim of Early Childhood Teacher Education Program Program is to train specialists and academics in the field of classroom teacher as persons who can renew themselves according to the requirements of the era; open to changes and development; perceive science as a way of life; be reliant; follow and apply the international accumulations. To reach this aim, within the framework of Early Childhood Teacher Education Second Cycle Degree curriculum defined by Department of Primary Education Board, the courses about sucject area, pedagogical courses, cultural courses are given theoretically and practically by the speacialist instructors of the sucject area.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the student;

Possesses and develops the theoretical and practical knowledge at expert level obtained from the field of education. Exercises and develops the theoretical and practical knowledge at expert level obtained from the field of education. Develops new strategic approaches for the unforeseen and complicated circumstances confronted over the course of field-related applications, takes responsibility and offers solutions. Analyzes the social relations in occupational and professional environments and the norms shaping these relations from a critical perspective, takes action and leads the process when these mentioned factors are supposed to improve or change.  Interprets the field-related strategies, policies and application plans, develops the plans in question and evaluates the results obtained within the scope of quality processes.    

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to master programme is based on the following requirements;
1. Students must have a bachelor’s degree diploma or a diploma obtained from faculty or college at abroad and accepted by HEC (Higher Education Council).
2. Students must get at least 55 points (which is appropriate for the programme) from ALES or equivalent of this score from GRE or GMAT.
3. Students must enter to either one of the exams names ÜDS, KPDS or YDS or equivalent of this exams IELTS or TOEFL.
4. For the placement of canditates to the applied programme, students must obtain at least 60 points which is calculated by summing 50 % of ALES, 20 % of General Point Average score, 10 % of foreign language exam (ÜDS, KPDS, YDS, IELTS or TOEFL) and 20 % of verbal or written exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our Elementary Teacher Education Master Program have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year. Students who are in dissertation stage can not transfer.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The requirements for getting Second Cycle Degree are to complete 120 ECTS credit hours as diveded below and to fulfill all other requirements for graduation.
a)30 Credit hours covering 4 compulsory courses as detailed in the curriculum.
b)30 Credit hours covering 4 optional courses as detailed in the curriculum.
c)Maximum study period to receive Second Cycle Degree is 4 years.

Profile of The Programme

Program Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program, the students will be able to;
 1-  Diagnoses the national and international education problems in the field of preschool education and trying to solve them.
 2-  Conceptualizes the events in the field of preschool education and analyses them with scientific methods and techniques.
 3-  Recognize themselves as individuals, use their creative and strong sides, develop their weaknesses, take responsibility as team members.
 4-  Conducts independent reserch in preschool education field.
 5-  Characterize and solve national and international problems of education.
 6-  To be able to produce and implement solutions to the problems those require expertise in Early Childhood Education by using quantitive and qualitative Scientific research methods, to be able to work independently and take responsibility.
 7-  To be able to share and discuss the information and findings of Early Childhood Education in written or orally in both national and international meetings, evaluating current issues by considering the country facts, developing strategy, policy and implementation programs about related topics and evaluating the results in respect to quality.
 8-  Plans and practises occupational projects and activities for the social environment by virtue of social responsibility.
 9-  Knows about the theories and developments on child development and education, and they can relate their studies to these theories and principles.
 10-  Awares of the importance of parents education in preschool education in Turkey and around the World. They can preapre a parentes education program and practice it.
 11-  Knows about modern management approaches and adapt these approaches to classroom manangement.
 12-  Knows about the characterictics of the children with the special needs, and they can provide individual education program.
 13-  Knows about the historical period of drama and various drama tecniques
 14-  Knows about the characterictics of creative children and they can arrange appropriate education environment and programs to improve their creativity.
 15-  Keeps up with the scientific though national and international sources.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of Early Childhood Teacher Education Second Cycle programme have scientific knowledge and skills to conduct researches related to their field. They can work in the public and private elementary schools which are connected to the National Education Ministry. They can work in academic units to conduct research and developments in different dimensions of Early Childhood Education.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the Second Cycle Degree programme, it is possible to continue PhD studies. The graduates are awarded as PhD graduate in their field.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

Each student must attend the courses, applied studies, laboratories, projects, seminars and other studies of the semester s/he is enrolled for. Students who have not attended at least 30% of theoretical courses and 20% of applied and laboratory studies are not allowed to take the final exam of those courses. Once the student fulfilles the attendance requirements in theoretical courses, no attendance is required if the course is repeated later
The Mid-term and Final Examinations are generally in written form. However, the instructor of the course may decide to conduct the exam in the form of an oral exam, project or assignment on condition that s/he states it on the course information form (syllabus). Examinations are arranged and conducted by the instructors teaching the courses. Make-up exam is given to students with certified excuses accepted by the relevant executive board within three days after the final examinations are over.
A course final grade calculation, with 40% of midterm exams 60% calculate the final exam is determined. To be successful from a course, the final exam score must be at least 70 and the total score at the end of the term must be at least 70 (CC ) which is passing grade.

Graduation Requirements

Early Childhood Teacher Education major is subject to the following graduation requirements:
1.To be succesful in the the elective and compulsory courses defined in the curriculum which is 120 ECTS.
2.To graduate from the program, GPA must be at least 2.0 (CC).
3.Studet must complete succesfuly the specialty courses, seminars, and thesis.

Students should:

  • successfully complete at least 7 different graduate courses from the following list offered below,
  •  have totally minimum of 21 national credits, (60 ECTS credits, including graduate seminar)
  • take special studies course on the thesis subject, (20 ECTS credits),
  • prepare and defende thesis, (40 ECTS credits),
  • obtain a cumulative grade point average of at least 70 on a 100 scale.
