Objectives

The main purpose of the Department of Civil Engineering Graduate Programme is to train graduates assimilating the fundamentals of theory, capable of making their own research, doing observations, questioning cause-and-effect relationship, thinking analytically, generating creative solutions, taking decisions by responsibility on related issues to their area, respectful for civil engineering ethics, capable of advanced communications, capable of teamwork, open to dialogue with people, capable of empathy.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students' admission to higher education is based on a nation-wide Student Selection Examination (ÖSS). The examination is held once in a year and is administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the selection examination and their high school grade point averages.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our University have the right to request the recognition of their prior learning at different universities. For the recognition of their prior learning, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department in the first semester of their registration year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The program are required to graduate students a total of 167 (including the common compulsory courses) credits or 240 ECTS credits and a total of 60 days an internship. Students, complete local courses or 240 ECTS credits and a GPA of weighted mean at least 2.00 out of 4.00, have a passing grade. Maximum study period to receive First Cycle Degree is 7 years.

Profile of The Programme

Department of Civil Engineering was established on 4th July 2011 with in the body of Engineering-Architecture Faculty at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. The department is started the undergraduate program in 2013-2014 Academic Year Fall Semester. It consists of Structure, Hydraulics, Transportation, Geotechnical and Mechanics. Civil Engineering Department gives four years period of education. Optional English preparation class is offered.

 13-  Solve engineering problems.
 14-  Apply the appropriate analytical methods and modeling techniques.
 15-  Select and use necessary modern techniques and tools for engineering practice.
 16-  Be aware of the legal implications of engineering applications.
 17-  Communicate oral and written effectively.
 18-  Use the ability of technical drawing on design and application effectively.
 19-  Communicate using technical drawing.
 20-  Be aware of the necessity of lifelong learning.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Civil Engineers can work on planning, design, construction and supervision of all kinds of Buildings, airport, port, railroad, highway, bridge, hydraulic structures, coastal structures, etc. Upon a successful completion of the programme, student may continue with master and doctoral studies in the same or similar scientific areas, which may accept students from Civil Engineering.

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to graduate programs.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

The achievement of the course is calculated by the student grades of exams, written, oral, homework, project or laboratory work. The grade of the course is formed 40% by mid-term exam and / or the other studies instead of mid-term studies and 60% by the final exam.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate the program; success in all courses of the program (a total of 240 ECTS), having at least 2 GPA over 4 (70/100), presenting a graduation project and completing the internship period  is required.
