Mehmet Akif Ersoy University was founded by law on 17 March 2006 and the number 5467 published in the official newspaper in the issue 26111. Burdur Education Faculty, Burdur School of Health, Burdur Vocational School, Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School, Gölhisar Vocational School, Bucak Emin Gülmez Technical Science Vocational School, Ağlasun Vocational School were connected to Suleyman Demirel University and Burdur Veterinary Faculty was connected to Akdeniz University which were then transferred to Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. Faculty of Letters, Institutes of Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Health Sciences were founded by the same law

OUR MISSION
Mehmet Akif Ersoy University undertakes the duty of training individuals required by the country. Individuals highly qualified; interested in art, cultural and sports activities are trained. Students that have the competencies of research and technology, application and science are encouraged to pursue higher knowledge streams. The university aims to integrate global values with the national values and find solution to the problems of the region, country, and world, and thereby present the output which benefits the society as a whole.

The vision of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University is to be a university that believes in science, prefers creativity, originality of thought, different opinions and thoughts can be expressed in peace and tolerance. It intends to be a university that is independent, fair and transparent, has academic and ethic values, believes that education guides to social development and social culture and has national and international competitiveness in the fields of science, technology, education, art, and sport.
